VIKINGS INVADE LONDON!!

Complete with swords, horned helmets, straggly hair and severe body odour, a plane full of bad tempered, ill mannered Icelandic Vikings will besiege London’s streets leaving chaos in their path.

Landing at London Stansted on Wednesday 7th April 2004 with low fare airline Iceland Express, the Vikings and their blonde ‘Valkyries’, will travel to Central London to join their English ‘cousins’ in celebration of the 1000 year anniversary of one of Viking history’s most important England invasions and the arrival of low fares to Iceland.

Once at Stansted, the Vikings will collect their swords and board the Stansted Express, destination Liverpool Street. To gasps and cries from innocent commuters, the Vikings will storm through the ticket barriers and clamber aboard an open top bus for their whistle stop tour of London.

With swords drawn, the Vikings will descend the Mall, drawing nervous looks from the Queen’s Guards before stopping at the Iceland Embassy to meet a contingent of English Vikings, where together they’ll feast on dried cod and other traditional delicacies, washed down with lashings of beer. Next stop the Houses of Parliament, followed by a sightseeing boat trip from Westminster Pier to Tower Pier, giving the Vikings the chance to reminisce about their forefathers bloody invasions and take in some of London’s top attractions. Once at Tower Pier, the Vikings will embark on their journey home.

The event pays tribute to a battle between Sweyne, a ruthless Viking who invaded and ransacked the Norfolk area in 1004 and the defender, Ulfcytel. The invading party fought against the East Anglians, lead by Ulfcytel in a bloody battle that culminated in hundreds of casualties. Recognising the zeal of their enemy, the Vikings paid homage to the Englishmen for being the hardest fighters they had ever faced.

The emergence of Iceland Express, Icelands’s first low fare carrier has helped open up new opportunity to travellers, by making Iceland more accessible. Iceland Express’s introduction of these low fares has enabled the Vikings to travel to the UK and celebrate this occasion for the first time ever.
