MARKETING MAN MAKES
MANAGEMENT MOVE AT ICELAND EXPRESS

Birgir Jónsson has been named as the new Managing Director of Iceland’s low-fare airline, Iceland Express. Jónsson, 31, formerly Sales & Marketing Director for the carrier succeeds Almar Örn Hilmarsson who recently took over as the Managing Director for Iceland Express’ Nordic sister company, Sterling European.

Jónsson’s priority is to demonstrate Iceland Express’ stability due to new investment, in turn reflecting that the airline is now a growing international operation. Commenting on recent events, Jónsson said. “Iceland Express’ market position has developed dramatically in recent months. To keep the momentum flowing we must now focus on improving our customer service, enhancing our relationship with Sterling and looking for growth opportunities.”

Jónsson, formerly Regional Director of Össur, a global leader in the field of orthopaedics products, was responsible for the company’s fast growing operations in Russia, Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. Before that, he was head of eBusiness Development for Islandsbanki, an Icelandic bank, and International Production Manager at RR Donnelley Financial in London.

Jónsson holds a B.A. (Hons) from the University of the Arts in London and an MBA from the University of Westminster in London. He has been working towards a Doctorate in Business Administration at the University of Newcastle in Australia. He is married with two children.

Iceland Express links Reykjavík to three other European cities, with daily flights to London Stansted and Copenhagen and — from 21 May — three flights a week to Frankfurt Hahn.
